Vintage Tote

The internet is proving to be an excellent source of inspiration and instruction in my endeavour to teach myself to sew.

I found this wonderful YouTube video by Debbie Shore for a zippered, lined tote

It seemed like a great project to step me up from the first bag I made  as it involved zippers (yikes).

Having some tension issues here. Could be the fact that I was stretching and pulling that thing so tight it was a wonder I didn't bust a needle :o)

This little exercise really helped confirm that the name I had chosen for my blog was perfect (stitch, unpick, repeat) as there was a fair bit of that going on.

I am also learning that I have perfectionist tendencies which I'm obviously going to have to get over, at least while I'm learning.

It was a bit easier for the second zip.

I forgot to take photos as I was going along but I have made up for it with photos of the finished bag :o)

I am really pleased with the finished product. It came up much better than I thought it would and there was only a couple of places that I had to unpick and try again.

Thank you for visiting today and for you kind words of encouragement.

I will be looking for a few places where I can link my new bag up and to see if I can find a few more new blogs to visit.

Michelle :o)

  3. I love your blog name, the thing it doesn't matter how long you sew you'll be stitching, unpicking and doing it all over again!

    1. Thank you for coming by my blog. I had a feeling that it would probably be the case that I would spend as much time unpicking as actual sewing :o)

  7. I was surprised too to discover you've only just started sewing, what a great start you've made. Have you sewn ever in the past? I know my students are always surprised to discover I've only been quilting for 3 years - but then I've been sewing for 50 so I'm not really a newbie at all! Enjoy your blogging, it changed my life totally but I never dreamt how addictive it would be. I'm going to follow you on bloglovin to watch your journey - Chris :D

    1. HI Chris. Thank you for stopping by my blog. I have only ever attempted to sew once before when I tried to make a pair of furry pants for my son to wear as a costume for book week for kindy about six years ago. Luckily the fur hit my wonky stitches and the tension problems etc. :o)

  8. Only your second sewing project, Michelle, and you are powering along. I'd say you are well and truly hooked with sewing now!!! Another lovely bag. I'd be totally lost without my unpicker and I've been sewing for many years... LOL!!!
